PROGRAM GLANCE:

Conceptualized in 2013 as the Foundation’s flagship program for hygiene education
An educational program for schools and communities that raises awareness on the importance of proper hygiene practices as key for healthy living;
Annually celebrates World Oral Health Day, Global Handwashing Day and World Toilet Day
More than 14 million people were reached through the combined HiOH global celebrations in 2019

INTRODUCTION

All year-round, Manila Water Foundation teaches proper hygiene practices on-site in schools and local communities and through multiple communication tools and platforms.

In order to deliver a more holistic hygiene education, the Foundation has expanded its Health in Our Hands (HiOH) program to teach not just proper handwashing but also other hygiene practices such as using toilets properly and taking care of one’s oral health.

PROGRAM STRIDES

In 2019, it has conducted stand-alone HiOH sessions on the 7 Steps to Proper Handwashing and the 7 Steps to Proper Toothbrushing, and some sessions that come with Lingap facilities that are installed in public institutions so community members and students alike can wash their hands, brush their teeth and even drink potable water.

2019 CELEBRATIONS

In the Philippines, Manila Water Foundation’s Health in Our Hands program also drives global celebrations that promote proper hygiene practices. The Foundation celebrates World Oral Health Day every March 20; Global Handwashing Day on October 15; and World Toilet Day on November 19.
