Roots to Shoots provide more sanitation facilities to toilet-less households

New sanitation facilities provided for toilet-less families through Roots to Shoots (RTS) đźš˝

On February 16, the Roots to Shoots (RTS) local project management team turned over four new sanitation facilities to toilet-less families at Sitio San Vicente, Barangay Caranan in Pasacao, Camarines Sur. The RTS team also handed over bathroom goods and water containers to encourage proper usage of the toilets. The intervention aims to end the practice of open defecation, protect the community’s water resources and strengthen tourism in the region.

Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation through the Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. funded the construction of four individual toilets that were turned over to household partners of the RTS program. These were in addition to the 38 facilities built last year. With this, we are heading towards bringing more access to safely managed sanitation facilities to families living in vulnerable communities.

This year, RTS plans to build more toilets in the municipalities of Pasacao and Bombon in Camarines Sur to complement the mother and childcare, and farming and sustainable livelihood interventions of the RTS program.

Through the new toilets and bathroom supplies, we hope that our partner families are now more empowered to live a safer and healthier life for their children and community.

RTS is a collaboration among Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Manila Water Foundation, and World Vision Philippines, aimed at nurturing and transforming human potential by fostering the right conditions for child development, especially in its earliest stages.
