Lingap Bilangguan aims to not only protect persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) from COVID-19, but also uplift their dignity through WASH.
On June 1, Manila Water Foundation (MWF) formalized the partnership with Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) through a virtual MOA signing in line with BJMP's celebration of the Community Relations Services Month.
As part of the partnership, MWF also formally turned over a three-faucet hand hygiene facility at the Quezon City Jail on May 25.
The Quezon City Jail, catering to a large inmate population, is the third correctional institution beneficiary of Lingap Bilangguan. The first two were at the Pasig City Jail and the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City. This is a significant milestone as MWF reaches out to persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), who also need WASH interventions as they are in rehabilitation and await re-integration to society. The project will benefit 2,538 PDLs and 160 jail personnel.
MWF thanks its partners, the Department of Health, Quezon City Government, BJMP NCR Quezon City Jail, Del Monte Foundation and JCI Quezon City Capitol for their support in this initiative for the benefit of PDLs and jail personnel.
