
WASH INSTITUTIONS: HEALTH IN OUR HANDS–Fighting COVID-19 continues in 2021 with SAFE hands!
In its continuing partnership for a SAFE Philippines, Manila Water Foundation and Safeguard handed over 7,000 bars of soap and IEC materials for school children and community members in key public spaces in Davao City, Boracay Island, Cebu City, and Zamboanga City.
Promoting Safe Hands in Davao City and Boracay Island
In Davao City, more school children may be protected from COVID-19 and other communicable diseases caused by germs with over 3,700 bars of Safeguard soap distributed in 5 public elementary schools. Bars of Safeguard were also handed over to the administrators of the Bangkerohan Public Market and the Ecoland Overland Transport Terminal to complement its COVID-19 efforts. The donations were received by officials from the City Economic Enterprise Office, the Transport and Traffic Management Office and the Department of Education Davao City Division, on behalf of Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte.

Meanwhile, in Boracay Island, more bars of Safeguard were made available for the Indigenous Peoples’ community at the Ati Village, the island tourists arriving and leaving at the Cagban Jetty Port, buyers and vendors at the D’ Talipapa Wet Market and the schoolchildren of the Manocmanoc Elementary School.
Fostering Safer Public Spaces in Zamboanga and Cebu
In Zamboanga City, MWF and Safeguard Philippines turned over 600 bars of Safeguard soaps and info-education materials in Chavacano to Zamboanga City Mayor Beng Climaco. These will be mounted on the key areas in the City Hall and other public spaces to remind more people of the 7 Steps of Proper Handwashing, and COVID-19 precautionary measures.

In Cebu City, Safeguard bars are now more accessible for frequent visitors of Ayala Center Cebu PUV Terminal and Labangon Public Market after the donation of 400 bars of Safeguard soap and info-education materials in Cebuano. These donations aim to promote correct information, and proper handwashing with soap and clean water: one’s protection against disease-causing germs.
