To help promote handwashing as a first line of defense against COVID-19 in prisons where social distancing can be a challenge, Manila Water Foundation (MWF) partnered with One Young World (OYW) to build two new handwashing facilities at the Pasig City Jail, and the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City.

Manila Water Foundation conducts a hand hygiene session at the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City.
One Young World is a global nonprofit that convenes young leaders across the world to accelerate social impact. Through OYW's grant, MWF also turned over bar soaps, face masks, and IEC materials such as flyers and posters on proper handwashing and COVID-19 precautionary measures to the institutions to further promote proper hand hygiene practices.

Visitors and staff at the Pasig City Jail can now clean their hands properly before entering the premises through the handwashing facility. Meanwhile, the staff and persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the CIW can use the facility strategically located inside the Maximum Security Area of the institution.
Overall, around 4,700 PDLs will be benefitting from this initiative.
