More schools in Laguna get WASHed

More than 2,500 students and staff of Southville 5A Integrated National High School (SINHS) in  Biñan City, Laguna can now live a healthier lifestyle through the five-faucet hygiene and drinking facilities under the Foundation's Lingap Eskwela program, in partnership with Laguna Water.

SINHS Student Government President Karylle Mae Capunitan expressed her gratitude for the facilities in behalf of the student body. "Dati po kasi [sa eskwelahan], nahihirapan kami kasi 'yung ratio po ng aming mga handwashing area ay hindi sapat para sa aming mga estudyante. (Before, it is difficult for us because the ratio of handwashing areas and number of students are not enough,)" she said. "Because of this handwashing [facility], we know that we will have a safer, cleaner environment that will help us pratice proper personal hygiene such as handwashing and toothbrushing," she added.

Aside from having the facilities, the student-participants also learned about the 7 steps to proper handwashing and toothbrushing through the Foundation's hygiene education program, Health in Our Hands (HIOH). The hygiene lectures were co-facilitated with volunteers from Laguna Water. Carmelus Aseneta, one of the volunteers from Laguna Water expressed his joy from the experience. "It's very good to see that our company has this kind of program [that allows] us to give back to the community. I encourage [my fellow] employees to be part of this program, so that we can contribute to the well-being of our community," he said.

MWF is grateful for the unrelenting support of Laguna Water and Provincial Government of Laguna that made this project possible.
